RFID TAGS ON VEHICLES

The primary reason for the AAVA Board’s decision to institute the installation of radio frequency identification (RFID) tags on vehicles is to enhance the level of security in the village. Entry can be controlled more consistently than the current visual identification of stickers by a security guard whose attention can also be easily distracted. Logs of entry and exit of vehicles can be made available in case of untoward incidents, subject to the relevant data privacy regulations. Entry and exit of non-resident vehicles can be restricted to specific gates, where compliance can now be monitored through exception reports generated by the system and violators meted out the appropriate sanctions. As to the concern that the RFID system may result in queuing or heavy traffic at the gates, Security may decide to lift the boom barrier during peak periods. During such intervals, the system will continue to alert the guard on any unauthorized entry through its Red and Green signal lights.
